The BODY & SOLD Project exists to prevent and end sexual trafficking in the United States through broad exposure to information.
BODY&SOLD is a result of interviews and talks in Minneapolis, Hartford, and Boston with young men and women who told Tempest Productions many versions of their harsh stories. BODY & SOLD is a play composed from the voices of these survivors.
Young Americans — six girls and two boys — tell us how they left home and were seduced, lured, kidnapped into a life of prostitution. They tell us about the trouble in their families which forced them from home, how they became prostituted, the daily violence in “the life,” how they escaped, and their struggle to survive.
"BODY & SOLD is a powerful tool to create community dialogue about teen prostitution and child abuse.” - Olinka Briceño, co-director, VOX Project
Acting together we can make the exploitation of children unfashionable by raising the statewide and national consciousness about the intertwined issues of child abuse, runaways, and child prostitution.
The Staged Reading will act as an agent to build awareness and support the work of non-profit organizations Tempest Productions and Girls Are Not for Sale (Council of Daughters) Council of Daughters is an initiative supported Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Katie Ford, Sinead O’Conner, and Mary J. Blige.
